The “compassionate conservatism” that has motivated Republicans to outspend Democrats in social programs is a search for moral goodness by the standard of altruism: the morality of self-sacrifice.

Because the Republicans’ embrace of altruism has rendered them unable to defend the profit motive, they have abandoned capitalism and accepted the legitimacy of every government program that redistributes money to those in need. The welfare state is the direct application of the morality of self-sacrifice to the realm of politics.

John Lewis: Investigation of the war against Islamic Totalitarians--meaning, all those who wish to impose Islamic Law by force, or who pursue a political agenda that includes such a goal--may begin with a list of the major attacks made by various Islamist groups since the 1970’s. A list of every terrorist attack in the twentieth century would fill a volume. The chronology here is ruthlessly select; it includes a few events needed to understand the sequence, such as the formation of selected top-rank Islamist groups, formal declared wars, [and includes, in brackets, certain non-Muslim terrorist acts]. A series of one hijacker / one day hijackings without casualties have been omitted—although the facts suggest connections between the motivations of lone hijackers and the teachings of radical Islam.

No attempt has been made to document the hundreds of Palestinian bombings in Israel, and Israeli retaliations, unless they had international affects or involved the deaths of Americans. This list does not adequately demonstrate the state of siege in which Israel has lived for over fifty years, nor does it convey the depths of Arab rage that has led to such attacks. There is no attempt to provide a blow-by-blow account of the war in Iraq. This list focuses on violence against civilians by Islamic fundamentalists, for political purposes, which has taken place in an international context.

In today's politically correct Britain few people are prepared to openly criticize Islamism. A collective cowardice afflicts the chattering classes. Too fearful of the stigma of being labeled "Islamophobe", leaders and media figures would rather buy into the lies of Muslim victimization than objectively analyze the threat that global radical Islam poses to democracy. Few are aware of Churchill's comments on Islam, and fewer still would dare repeat those words in public today.

America’s increasing technological superiority, combined with deepening fog surrounding the moral purpose of that technology, is a symptom of the gulf between science and the humanities that has characterized the past two hundred years. We combine soaring advancements in the capacity to control nature, with stagnation and regression in our understanding of man’s moral nature. If we do not get a grip on the moral goodness of self-interested action in pursuit of victory over theocratic dictators, our army will continue to increase in technological efficacy, all the while we sacrifice it to the bathroom needs of foreigners.

Unfortunately, none of this will deter the advocates of a sacrificial foreign policy, for they are driven by a moral ideal — altruism — that carries more weight in their minds than the need to defend our own freedom and our own lives. It is for those who recognize the goodness in defending life, liberty and freedom, against its enemies, to offer a different policy.

I den vestlige del af verden har vi ingen store diktatorer. Kun små. Dem har vi til gengæld mange af.
